Account Deletion & Data Retention
Deletion is request-based and processed asynchronously — not an instant hard wipe of all systems.
Requesting deletion
Members can request deletion from Account settings. After you confirm, a background job processes the request (usually within about a day, subject to job schedules). You may keep using the account until processing completes.
What happens when processed
- Your profile is anonymized: name, email, username, bio, and profile media are removed or replaced with deleted-user placeholders. Sessions are ended.
- Your user id is kept for database integrity. Public posts and shared messages may remain visible with an anonymized author label.
- Private messages you sent may remain in threads for other participants; your profile shows as deleted.
- Safety, moderation, security, and legal records may be retained as needed to protect the community and comply with law.
- Backups and logs may retain copies for a period after active systems are updated. We do not promise immediate erasure from every backup.
Data export
Before deletion, you may download a JSON export of your profile, posts, comments, saves, and your own messages from Account settings. Exports exclude passwords, tokens, and other people's private data.
